Two Army personnel were reportedly killed in an encounter with the UNLF while two bodies of the security force slain in the clash with the same outfit yesterday were brought to Imphal today.
Two personnel belonging to the 19 Rajput were killed in an encounter with cadres of the UNLF's armed wing MPA at near Pumtal village of Tipaimukh road located along the NH-53.Twenty other personnel of the same security force also sustained injuries in the encounter that took place at around 10.30 am yesterday.
The conditions of two of the injured personnel are stated to be serious, said sources.
The dead and injured personnel have been airlifted to Leimakhong Army cantonment by an army chopper, said the source.
The two bodies brought to RIMS Hospital and mortuary for embalming and post mortem are said to belong to the 7 Sikh Light Infantry and 5/8 GR killed in separate encounters yesterday with MPA cadres at Chandel and Churachandpur districts respectively.
Body of Sikh Light Infantry embalmed at the hospital has been identified as rifleman (No 4481527) Jasbir Singh from Punjab.
Jasbir is reported to be killed during encounter at Sehlon village of Chandel district.
Identity of the GR man killed in Phoibi area of Churachandpur district on December 9 has been established as Madan Reule (23) from Nepal.
A bullet that hit Madan on the left shoulder area and pierced through the other side was found during post mortem.
Meanwhile, bodies of the three persons suspected to be NSCN (IM) cadres that were deposited at RIMS morgue are yet to be identified till date.
The three were reportedly slain at Aweke river gorge located about 10 kilometre south-west of Tamei police station of Tamenglong district when they attempted to decamped from IM camp with arms.
Press sources speculated the three might have been captured in between Konphung and Nonglong and later slain at Aweke river gorge as capital punishment for deserting the outfit.
The incident took place on December 9 night.
