Imphal, November 27:
Following a meeting with the Chief Minister and other officials concerned today evening, the All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur has agreed to suspend the economic blockade imposed on the two National Highways for the last few days.
The student body had earlier threatened to intensify the economic blockade which ended midnight yesterday.
One of the major points agreed during today's meeting was to declare the results of the DPC held to recruit graduate teachers by December 4. As the Government gave its standing assurance that the result would be declared by December 4, ATSUM decided to suspend the economic blockade.
The student body however made it very clear that if the Government reneges on its assurance then economic blockades would be imposed from December 6.The two sides also agreed in principle to the proposal to extend pension benefits to employees of the Hill District Councils.
The Cabinet had earlier decided to extend the said facility.
The Government also tabled the order which extended the services of primary teachers appointed on contract basis till March next year.
On the demand of ATSUM that the Government absorb 13 aided schools in the hill areas and the reservation policy for ST and SC, both sides agreed to the proposal that the Government would take up the issues in good time.
