Imphal, May 25 2013 :
The JAC against forced eviction of Naga River Lane, Kabo Leikai has vehemently condemned the act of security personnel led by SP (Imphal West) against the democratic and nonviolent activities of the JAC at Naga River today.
Grace Shatshang, convenor of the JAC said in a statement that the JAC's intention in visiting the evicted area was nonviolent, with the sole motive to console the victims who refused to move away from the area.
Heavily armed police personnel coerced the JAC members who were engaged in nonviolent activity and created ruckus at the place, the JAC said.
It pointed out that a police man has manhandled a woman despite the presence of lady police personnel.
The woman got injury on her right hand, the JAC statement said.
The JAC said that the decision of the State Govt in sending heavily armed police personnel to confront the non-violent visit of the JAC was undemocratic and uncivilised.
In view of the alleged anti-poor and violent attitude of the State Govt, the JAC has categorically resolved not to accept any compensation and demanded the immediate reconstruction of all the houses that were uprooted, it said while urging all concerned to reach out to the helpless victims.
