Imphal, December 23:
The recent spate of encounters at Khengjoi and its surrounding areas has offshoot a press statement from the Kuki National Organisation that urges UNLF/MPA cadres to desist from operating in their land.
A statement issued by T Stephen Kuki, under secretary of KNO details how Kuki warriors helped prevent the incursion of Ava king and rescued king Chandrakirti from the clutches of Kamhau, the Sukte King.
In this context, KNO said it would be normal to anticipate a sense of reciprocity from the Meitei community towards their neighbour.
Lamentably, UNLF cadres have set up their camps in Kuki areas where they plant indiscriminate landmines and also carry out offensive against cadres of KNO, it added.
The calamity at Khengjoi, owing to landmines planted by UNLF and their lands being bombarded by the ISF as a counter offensive has victimize 28 Kukis and rendered 2000 homeless claimed the statement.
However it proclaimed that UNLF/MPA activity on Kuki territory is the root cause behind the misery of the Kukis.
'You leave our land and planting of landmines and bombardments will automatically come to an end.
Have the decency as 'gentlemen revolutionaries' and allow our people to live and work in peace in their own lands.
It is fair to comment that you will never tolerate the same kind of activities and consequences if they were to take place in your Leikais in the valley' it says, adding the Apunba Lup's humanitarian relief efforts to alleviate the plight of the displaced Kukis is appreciated, but do not assume that any credit should be gained at any stage.' Leaving our land is the only ultimatum and the only balm to heal the wounds inflicted by you.
Otherwise any amount of charity will not be able to hide the fact that on the one hand you maimed and kill Kukis and on the other hand say you are sorry!, it declared.
Owing to the quandary the Kukis find themselves in there is no other choice but to seek an alternative future to the existing one, one that is independent of the aggressing Naga and Meitei community, asserts the statement.
And for this a separate statehood for separate administration of Zalengam and Kangleipak bears the potential of being the aggulutination-with social economic implication-that will be honourable and practicable, it said.
