Imphal, December 05:
Asserting that the India Government as well as Manipur Government are anti-poor, AMUCO president R Yangsosong Koireng has stated that the so-called developmental works being taken up are not meant for the poor and deprived section of the society but in the interest of the rich and elite class alone.
Speaking as one of the presidium members at a public meeting held at Kumbi Bazar today as part of the ongoing campaign on the theme of 'unity, development and peace in Manipur' being jointly organised by AMUCO, AMESCO, AMAWOVA, PLMPAM, MEPWAK and other organisations, Yangsosong observed that development should not be sectarian in nature.
The developmental works being taken up by the Government of Manipur with funding from the Government of India is not for the welfare of the poor people living in Manipur but to enrich the moneyed-class, he added.
Instead of bringing about equitable distribution of wealth among the people, the developmental policies being pursued by the State Government in the hill districts have become a cause for disintegration of Manipur, he alleged.
How can there be unity, development and peace in the hills when the people are still being deprived of their basic rights and condemned to live in sub-human conditions, he countered.
SYDO president Lalpu Misao who was also one of the presidium members, noted that involvement of youth is more essential in such campaign for unity, development and peace in Manipur.
Chief advisor of AMUCO Th Iboyaima, another presidium member , said majority the community owed an apology to their brethren in the hills for the past misdeeds committed.
MPAL Bishnupur president N Thambal Leima, MPAL Bishnupur ex-president M Madhubala Devi, K Haopao Kilo of Saiton Area People Organisation and general secretary of Ngairong S Ngirpu were also among the other presidium members who spoke at the occasion.
