Thangthuam's family and escort commander's family entitled to all benefits

Even as the 18 hour general strike called by the JAC Against the North AOC Killing ended without any major incident today at 6 pm, the State Cabinet which met today morning with the Chief Minister in the chair has decided to hand over the assassination case of IGP (Intelligence) T Thangthuam and his escort commander Khamjakham and the North AOC killing case to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
IGP (Intelligence) T Thangthuam and his escort commander were killed in an ambush laid by the proscribed PLA at Oinam on December 31 last year while at North AOC, two persons were killed while another was injured when unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate firing in the night of December 31.The decision to hand over the two cases to the CBI came amid growing demands for an impartial probe into the killing of the IGP and the two persons at North AOC on the same day.
The Cabinet also agreed to release Rs 10 lakh as terminal benefits to the family members of the late IPS officer as per Central Services rules.
The family will also be entitled to the full salary of the late police officer until the time of his superannuation.
The Cabinet has also decided to let the family use the quarters of the late police officer.
The Cabinet also decided to entitle the bereaved wife of the escort commander Havildar Khamkhanjan to his basic pay and DA till the superannuation time.
The Cabinet also agreed to allow the family members to use the quarters allocated to the late Havildar.
Other than this, the family of Khamkhanjan will also be entitled to Rs 2 lakhs as terminal benefits.
On the North AOC killing, the Cabinet decided to hand over the investigation of the case to the CBI.
The two persons killed in the North AOC firing were an officer of the Agriculture Department Simthar Tangkhul and sportsman L Govind.
Another man identified as A Langamba, an auto richkshaw driver was seriously injured in the firing.
The Cabinet also decided to prorogue the Assembly today.
