The illustration on the cover page shows the nature of poetry in this book. On seeing the cover I thought the book might have been drama or a collection of short stories or a novel. On contrary, when I opened the book I realized that this is a book of poetry. To conceal the idea would be the most beautiful form of art. So please think of this matter, dear poet. The poet picks up the themes from the stratum that is fully degraded. This Meiteileibak, the land of the Manipuris has now become the land of demons. So he writes such lines in his poem Hingchabagi Leibakta, ‘A man had been eating a man raw/ Stands the demon who grumbles/ Waylaid some foxes, too/ This land could not be inhabited/So talked here and there/Demons are right in the land of demon/ But man can't live." The poet wants to reform the cruelty of the demons and create a new land, a land of peace but he could do nothing. The demons strangulate his throat. Nowadays the newly married women are likes the angry snakes, writes the poet in the poem Mou Naha, "Today the social system/ Is different from the past, quite changed, new system is created/ Today the women brandishing/ Like a poisonous mother snake/ Spewing venoms in the family/ Taking the role of she-monster/Break down the family into several pieces/ Scattering here and there". The poet's view on women is too pessimistic. The poet feels pain while seeing the abysmal atmosphere in our society. He expresses his painful feelings in his poems. He is very simple and modest in expressing the ideas. On the other hand some of his poems have inner depths. The spelling rule used in the book is the aftermath of a few books penned by Dilip Mayengbam and Dr S Tomba. |
