During the last curfew month, no book was released except this book. It would be worthwhile to remind such a leader in this trying time. The book is divided into four sections: The first section deals with the life of Irawat. Irawat was born in 1896 at Pishumthong Oinam Leikai. The name of his father was Hijam Ibungohal and his mother was Chongtham Chanu Thambalnganbi. In his early boyhood, both his parents passed away. He spent his life at the house of his aunt Sougaijam Ongbi Ibeton of Moirangkhom. He studied upto class VII at Johnstone School. Then he went to Dhaka and read upto class IX. Due to financial crunch Irawat stopped further education and came back to his hometown. Irawat is famous, apart from his revolutionary spirit, for his multifarious character. In the field of sports, literature and theatre, language, he was well known. He composed the patriotic songs. He was also a good teacher. Children were very fond of him as a story teller. The author quotes from the work of Hemanga Biswas, a singer and music composer "Irawat was not only a public leader but also a pioneer in the movement for a new literature, and journalism in Manipuri language". Kritamala also analyses Irawat’s two books of poems Sheireng Sheidam and Imagi Puja. The students of BA would like to use the third chapter of this book because Imagi Puja is already in the curriculum. In the last chapter Irawat's prose works and his novel Mohini are analyzed. It would be very good if Kritamala shows the references of his work. |
