Yumnam Renubala Chanu breaks her 2006 Record and makes a new Record

Manipuri star women weightlifter, Yumnam Renubala Chanu retains her Common Wealth Gold medal after lifting 197 kg totals in the 19th Commonwealth Games at JN sports complex, New Delhi in the 58 weight category on October 06 2010. This is the first gold medal won by weightlifter from India in either of Men and Women categories in the 19th CWG, Delhi.
Austrian Weightlifter Lee Seen and Weightlifter Smith Zoe from England won silver and bronze medal respectively.
Yumnam Renubala Chanu broke her previous 2006 Common Wealth record, 185kg in total, and this is the highest record made in the history of Common Wealth games. She lifted 107kg in clean and Jerk and 90 kg in snatch. She started her attempt from 85kg in snatch and 104 kg in clean and jerk category. She cleared all her snatch category 85 kg, 87kg and 90 kg in her first attempt. In the clean and jerk category also, she cleared 104kg and 107kg in her first attempt. She could not lift 113 kg in her first attempt and finally declared as the winner of the event. Her nearest opponent Ms Lee Seen from Australia lifted 192 and Ms. Smith Zoe from England lifted 188.

Yunnam Renubala Chanu has 4 brothers and 4 sisters including her. She is from Kyamgei . Her Father Mr. Yumnam Mani Singh and her Mother brother and sister, all have come to Delhi to encourage and witness Renubala's victory moment and all were at present in Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Complex. Her mother was crying with joy for her daughter being declared as the winner of the 58 category of the event of CommonWealth Games, Delhi.

Renubala Chanu said that she wanted to dedicate this gold medal to her coaches, Anita "madam", Federation members, and to the people of Manipur. She says "I am very happy that I got this gold today. It is because of the support from my family, people of Manipur and our dedicated coach. I wanted to do proud for Manipur and India. At this moment, I don't have any words to express my joy (saying with tears in her eyes)".

Indian weightlifting Chief Coach Mr Harnam Singh says after the event, "We are very happy that Renubala Chanu got this gold medal. We have already expected this Goal Medal from her. She made India proud today. We did expect from Soniya chanu but we could not make it. Today Renubala did a good performance".
Womens' National Coach Laishangbam Anita who is also from Manipur said that they got the results of their hard work and dedication to the sports for this game. As a national coach she was very happy with the performance from Manipur weightlifters.
She says, "Till now all the three weightlifter from Manipur gave three medals - one gold medal by Renubala Chanu, one silver medal by Soniya Chanu and one bronze by Atom Shandyarani. Now we are looking another gold medal on 9 (oct). Our star player Monika Devi who is also from Manipur will be representing in 78 category. Let's wait for our victory ".
Today's moment will be one of the remarkable day in the history of the people's struggle to be a member of the Common Wealth Games and Olympic Games in due process of time by the State of Manipur as a State with her national anthem and national pride .
