New Delhi, January 4, 2012
All India Christian Council and North East Support Centre & Helpline welcome CBI’s decision and initiative according to news by PTI, to setup an anti-human trafficking unit at its headquarters.
The decision to coordinate with NGOs involve in anti-human trafficking is a much needed move and it will strengthen those who are already involved in anti human trafficking.
Human trafficking is biggest organised crime against humanity next to drug and arm trafficking. For India most vulnerable communities to human trafficking are Dalits and tribals from tribal dominated areas in different parts of India.
The north east communities living in Delhi and in mega cities of India are targeted by gangs and human trafficking networks. Boys from North East India are targeted for bounded labourers in factories and girls are for sexual exploitation.
While CBI takes up the initiative on this most challenging crime, it must also be noted that worse affected communities are Dalits and tribals, who have also been already facial social stigma under caste system for centuries. They have been in slavery under caste dominions and become worse when they are landed at the network of human trafficking.
