Two trafficked Kuki girls from Manipur :: Updates
Bangalore, 14 July 2013:
Two trafficked Kuki girls from Manipur rescued by Kuki Students' Organisation Bangalore jointly with Praja Rajakiya Vedike, NEWAK, ASOB, MMAB.
Following a request from Kuki Students Association of Bangalore, Praja Rajakiya Vedike managed to rescue two teenage girls from city houses where they were placed as domestic help against their will by an agent who trafficked them from Manipur.
Two girls, who are just 19-year-old, where lured by an agent and were promised jobs in a beauty parlour as beauticians for a salary of Rs. 5000 per month along with free food and accommodation. They were brought to Bangalore by train by a Manipuri man from Moirang. The two girls from Churachandpur district in Manipur were handed over to another agent Mala in Bangalore.
Mala, who also speaks Manipuri, stays in the city with her husband and after keeping the two girls for a couple of days they were both separated and placed as domestic maids, one in Banashankari and the other in JP Nagar on June 1, The girls who were promised training in a Beauty Clinic job were not happy with the job of maid and as they could not speak Hindi, English or Kannada were isolated and living in fear. They wanted to go back to Manipur but they were not allowed to go out nor talk to anyone.
When we spoke to the girls they revealed that their mobile phones were taken away and they got them back only after a week. But they found that all their contact numbers were deleted. One of the girls, managed to call her mother back in Manipur, who in turn enquired with the agent there also inform the Churachandpur Branch KSO After their parents failed to get any proper response, they apparently filed a police complaint and an FIR both in Moirang and Churachandpur.
Later, they informed the Kuki Students Organisation in Churachandpur who requested the local Kuki Students Organisation of Bangalore. Both the girls belonged to the Kuki tribe. Members of KSO(B), PRV, ASOB, MMAB and NEWAK managed to locate the Agent and convinced him to get the girl to a public place for talks. Two middlemen of the agent brought one girl.
We met outside the Forum mall and began talks with them. They initially demanded Rs.30,000 for expenses that incurred on the girls and said only if the amount is paid, the girls would be released. However, we managed to mobilize the public and did not allow them to take back the girl. We threatened them of police action and one of the agents took our activist and left the other girl with him and disappeared, KSO (B) KEEP PROGRESSING ON FIGHT AGAINST HUMAN TRAFICKING, WATCH LIVE INTERVIEWS AND DISCUSSION ON NDTV TODAY FROM 3:00PM ONWARDS .
After the successful rescuing operation was done by KSO (B) yesterday (i.e 14th July 2013) to rescue the 2 victims of human trafficking. The Kuki Students' Organization Bangalore (KSO, B) keeps on their fights against human trafficking.
Even today live discussion was held inside the discussion room of NDTV by a representative of KSO (B), Human-Right Activist, the 2 victims and NDTV. The rescue operation was one of the most critical situations faced by me as-well-as the team KSOB said the President KSOB.
We have no clue where the girls were exactly, we were told that the traffickers will be interested to meet us by 12:30pm. So, everything was set before 12:30pm including the posting and positioning of the media with their hidden cameras, the lawyers, the Human Rights activist in all the angles and corners of the famous shopping mall in the city known as The Forum Mall, Koramangala.
This all set-up was carried out perfectly before the human-traffickers came to the venue. The traffickers came to the shopping mall with one of the girl (victim/Them), when discussion was started by rescuer headed by Jangkholen Singson and Seilenthang Haokip from KSO(B) which was accompanied by members from ASO(B), MMA(B) & NEWAK, the traffickers demand Rs.15500/- from the rescuer in order to release the girls, they also warn us that they are localites and they can do everything they want to harm us, if we dont follow what they said.
Moreover whereabouts the other victim (***) is still unknown. Finally when the situation became very clear that they at any cost will not release the girls, the rescuer inform them(the traffickers) that they are view and recorded by all the medias, then only they change their mind and ready to hand-over the girls to the rescuer.
Had not this risky argument and rescue operation was not operated, no one can imagine where these two sisters (victim Lam and Them) would be.?..
