Tricking The Trickster

You may be surprised to learn that not everything you see and hear in the spirit dimension is of the Lord. When you drop a net into the water to fish, all kinds of fish can end up in the net. The fisherman must then decide what fish he wants and discard the rest. With a bit of practice, this process is second nature to the fisherman. The same is true in the realm of spirit. Once you begin to develop discernment, you will be able to discard the things that should not be part of the "catch".
HERE ARE SOME TIPS:
God does not gossip. Strange thought, but very important. God will not tell you things about another simply to give you fodder to spread among friends. If God entrusts you with the deep issues of another, it is an honor, indeed. It is an honor you would do well not to mishandle. The things you see are for the purpose of prayer and nothing more unless absolutely led.
The enemy steals, kills, and destroys. When you get data from the spirit realm that does any of these things, reject it outright. The voice of the trickster may sound compassionate, but if the data you get is condemning of anyone, it is not to be trusted. God convicts; we intercede. God speaks in gentle sincerity and love for the sole purpose of redemption. You are not the judge, nor is it your responsibility to deliver a judgmental message, your role is to convey the Father's love. He will do the rest.
The enemy will use your weakness to deceive you. Be careful of data that feed your weakness or lead you into compromising situations. For instance, the lord could lead someone to a bar if they do not have an alcohol problem but would probably not lead a recovering alcoholic into that same situation.
The enemy will play on your undisciplined emotions. Maybe you have something against someone. May be there is someone you just don't like. The enemy will "give" you a rebuke, correction, or Bible verse apparently for that person. Your dislike for that person will be a juicy temptation to fall into, all in the name of the Lord, of course. That is an old trickster's trap that you should never give into.
God's words have conclusion. When you can read someone's spirit without giving them hope, encouragement, or conclusion, it is not true spiritual discernment. A diviner can read someone's spirit; only true spiritual discernment can bring godly hope for someone to hold onto.
Discernment is first for prayer. You should assume you have been entrusted with something that requires nothing more than your intercessory prayer. This is true spiritual intervention and the highest form of co-labor with God.
Discernment can be for prayer, a personal warning, or as a way of being led by the Holy Spirit.
In review, you can be connected to the spirit realm without being in the spirit. Being in the spirit is our safety. Sometimes our enthusiasm can cause us to venture into uncharted spiritual territory. By that, it simply means that we forget that we need to be covered by the Blood of Jesus as well as to be led by the Holy Spirit. The blood is the shield around us. We should always be conscious of the fact that we are in Christ and He is in us. We are protected. We are safe.
Discernment, then, is concluded in the mind, or soul, to use Biblical terms. You can receive large amounts of data, but unless you can filter through what you have received and come to the proper conclusion, the data profits you nothing.
Tradition, religion, and personal history are three major areas that keep us from true spiritual discernment. If we are not careful, we will be tricked by these most relentless adversaries. The enemy will ruthlessly use these to sidetrack your heart and deter you from your calling.
The three stooges of deception must be marginalized and kept firmly under the Lordship of Christ. That means, tradition, religion, and your past must be under the dominion of the spirit of the Lord. They must submit to truth. They must obey, giving way to the will of God and the certainty of His purposes. If these big three are not in submission to the Lord, they will rule your life.
Be careful! Don't let anyone capture you with philosophy or misleading theories that can fool you … (Col. 2:8-11).
Blessed Sunday!
