The Mission Of 'Go & Come'
Dr. Thamsing Lamkang *
The sports ministry or mission was BORN to FULFILL JESUS order to 'GO' and preach the gospel to all mankind, so that many will 'COME' to the knowledge of God.
Jesus didn't tell us just to go, He commanded all the believers to go with the purpose of making Jesus Christ known to others. "It is not about you, it is not about sports or about the church, but it is all about Him, Christ Jesus alone". The word 'GO' is written 1514 times in the whole Bible, 233 times in New Testament, and in gospel of Matthew alone it is written 54 times.
Many love sports; sports are without any age limit or any gender restriction. Sports have no limitations to other cultures or boundaries. Through sports one can develop friendships so that the Gospel can be preached.
Sport is a unique tool and laboratory for a spiritual growth and discipling of the youth. Sports and recreation is an avenue that can bring the biggest number of people together. The Bible says that Jesus was compassionate as he saw the crowd. And today sports attract huge crowds, what would Jesus do and what would you do???
Whenever the expression of Sport Ministry is used, there seems to be wide diversity of opinion over the meaning of that term sport ministry. But for clear clarification and communication, it is imperative that there is an agreement on what is meant by Sport Ministry as the best tool for a change.
The churches should realize that we can't do discipleship and evangelism only from the church pulpit. We should always remind ourselves that only believers and good people come to Church. What about the non-church goers, drug addicts, alcoholics and the other non-believers? They will never come to church unless the church goes out to reach them wherever they are.
How can they hear the gospel, unless someone tells them? And how can anyone tell them without being sent? The scriptures say it is a beautiful sight to see even the feet of someone coming to preach the Good News?" Rom. 10: 14-15.
