Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong needs no introduction to anyone in Manipur.
Long before Quality Education became the catch phrase of a good number of civil society organisations and student bodies in the State, this Catholic school has been providing education as education is understood universally to the students of Manipur since its inception in 1957.
The alumnae list of this school will contain a number of the who is who in Manipur today, and if the State has been able to tap human resources to a certain extent, Don Bosco School will rank amongst one of the few institutions to tap and hone the talents of the young students.
The journey has been long and fruitful and today while the school celebrates its golden jubilee we may need to look back at the years gone by to understand why this school clicked and became a role model for numerous other schools.
We are not only talking about the toppers this school has produced year after year in the HSLC examination especially in the 70s, 80s and 90s but how they managed to inculcate a certain sense of value on the students.
Running a school is definitely not an easy task. It requires managerial skill of the highest order, it requires firm but gentle handling of the young students and given the situation when the school was first set up in 1957, we can imagine the extent to what the school authority must have gone through to strike a rapport with the parents of the students.
Today, Don Bosco School has touched the 50 years mark and while it can look back with a certain sense of satisfaction at the years gone by, we hope the school authority will also equally look forward to the coming years.
Perhaps this is also the time to study why it has lost some of its sheen during the last few years.
If Don Bosco School epitomises true, unadulterated education, then the moving force behind this institution also needs to be acknowledged.
That Catholic Missionaries, with their zeal and determination were able to set up an institution which has become a role model in the State should serve as an eye opener and perhaps a leaf or two may taken out from the performance of this school by the numerous private English schools which have cropped all over the State as well as the policy framers of Manipur.
It is not only Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong which has served as the beacon of education, but also other Don Bosco Schools.
Thanks to the Don Bosco School, today Maram is a destination for many young studious students who aspire for good, unadulterated quality education.
The mantra for the success of these institutions lie not only on the knowledge and technical know how of the teaching faculty but also due to the values taught to the students.
Don Bosco School has lived up to the image of an institution which is there to train, mould and guide the students, not only academically but also morally.
If there is a lesson to be learnt from this school, it is that educational institutions should not be seen only as concrete slabs of bricks and stones but as living entities which is there to breathe the breath of life and education into the minds of the young students.
Keep up the good work, is our message and wishes to the authority of Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong.
