Sonia Khundrakpam, a Manipuri fiction writer was awarded the prestigious Yuva Puraskar 2022 award by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi. The Award has handed over to Sonia Khundrakpam at a grand function held at Triveni Kala Sangam, Tansen Marg, New Delhi on 27th November, 2022.
Sonia was born on April 14, 1989 at Kongba Kshetri Leikai, Imphal East. She presently resides at Langol Housing Complex Type-2, Imphal West. Her father Khundrakpam Kulachandra was a Guru in Manohar Sai, Sankirtan and Folk Music.
She has completed Bachelor's degree in Computer Application. From her school days, she started writing poems, short stories and other articles. She has published two novels 'Mahousagum' (2017) and 'Loiyumba' (2019). She is a member of The Cultural Forum, Manipur and Manipuri Literary Society.
She was awarded the Yuva Puraskar 2022 award for her novel Loiyumba. Altogether, six Manipuri books were recommended for Yuva Puraskar award 2022.

Shaktam (1995 Poetry) by Akoijam Jiten Singh (Jiten Angomcha),
Aroiba Ahing (1987 Poetry) by K. Sarita (Sarita Sinha),
Mamhallaba Ahing (1987 Poetry) by Khonbantabam Haridas Singh (Haridas Khongbantabam),
Loiyumba (1988 Novel) by Sonia Khundrakpam (Khundrakpam Sonia Devi),
Matamgi Sheireng-37 (1989 Poetry) by Thingnam Parshuram and
Lan Mandaba Lan (1997 Poetry) by Thoudam Shyamjai.
From which Sonia's Loiyumba was unanimously selected by the jury. The Jury members are Professor Th. Ratankumar Singh, Dr. K Nayan Chand Shingha and Dr. Mongsatabam Tuleshwari Devi.
The book 'Loiyumba' is a fictional work in contemporary Manipuri literature. The novel depicts the high level of sacrifice and its readers the same theme.
The absorbing lyrical pattern and the impressive use of phrases and idioms added to the richness of the novel. The excellent plot construction, chiseled characterisation, fertile imagination, deep sensibility and elegant sense of beauty make the book a mesmerizing read.
As such, Sahitya Akademi is happy to confer the Yuva Puraskar in Manipuri Language on Sonia Khundrakpam for her novel, Loiyumba.
