New Delhi, 31st August, 2022
NEFIS APPEALS TO ALL THE CHIEF MINISTERS OF THE NORTHEAST TO INTERVENE IN SCAMS RELATED TO JOB AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES IN MAJOR CITIES!
DEMANDS STRINGENT ACTIONS AGAINST THOSE AGENTS RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH CRIME!
DEMANDS TO CREATE MORE PUBLIC SECTOR JOBS TO ENSURE PROPER EMPLOYMENT FOR YOUTHS AND EXPANSION OF EDUCATION INFRASTRUCTURES TO ENSURE QUALITY EDUCATION IN THE REGION!
North-East Forum for International Solidarity (NEFIS) has appealed to all the Chief Ministers of the North-East to intervene in scams related to jobs and educational opportunities in major cities to which the people from this region are falling prey.
It should be noted that the region has been troubled with the perennial problem of massive unemployment for a long time. Due to the rise in the unemployment rate in Northeast states, many people especially youth search for job opportunities in major cities of mainland India such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore etc. In doing so, many of the unemployed youth become easy prey to scammers and become victims of various scams and frauds.
The majority of such youth look for lower-skill jobs in private and corporate sectors. Taking advantage of their desperation to get jobs, individuals posing as recruitment agents lure them on the pretext of getting them lucrative jobs.
At the same time, these fake agents charge them a hefty amount by making false promises of providing job opportunities. It should be noted that women and students of this region are especially targeted and manipulated by these scammers. Many incidents have been reported wherein women employed in the spas and parlours in metropolitan cities have been sexually assaulted and harassed and, in some cases, forced into prostitution.
Likewise, these frauds can be witnessed regarding admission to educational institutions in different cities. Students and their families are duped by scammers demanding huge sums of money for ensuring admission to these institutions. In most cases, the students are compelled to enrol in unrecognized institutions, thereby jeopardizing their future.
These longstanding educational and unemployment problems can be attributed to the chronic negligence on the part of the various successive state ad central governments. These issues are very serious and require immediate intervention by the government.
In the memo sent to all the Chief Ministers of the Northeastern states, it has been demanded that a Special Investigation team should be appointed to probe into the frauds and scams related to jobs and unemployment opportunities, and the governments should take stringent actions against those agents responsible for the crime, more public sector jobs should be created in the region to ensure proper employment for the youths, and educational infrastructure should be expanded so that every student could avail of quality education in the region.
