Revoke the Show Cause Notice Served to Dr N Sanatomba
Imphal, 01 October, 2022
Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) regret to learn the serving of show cause notice by Registrar MU to Dr. N. Sanatomba Singh, Assistant Professor, MU For sharing his opinion against the plan and policies of state government during his speech. Being a citizen of India under democratic country it is very much in need to express our opinion in public interest before initiating any plan and projects of the government to discuss for the better implementation of the same.
We, really appreciate all the good policies & programs initiated by the present Govt. of Manipur, however it has been very unfortunate that state Government & its machinery like law enforcement agencies are violating the right of activist, academicians from exercising their rights to freedom of speech & expression as enshrined in the Indian constitution and various other International law & covenant.
We all have witnessed in many of instance that some of our journalist, scholars & activist are arbitrarily arrested by the state police for their mere comments and criticisms of state policy & program. And we also appeal to the state government to respect the right to freedom of speech laid down in the constitution.
Therefore, the issuance of show cause notice to Dr. N. Sanatomba Singh using the rules of Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964 is highly condemnable and need an amendment which suits with the interest of all the public workers and such kind of action from the Manipur University Authorities is the violation of fundamental rights of an individual and is nothing but to suppressed the voice of the academics.
We urge the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University to revoke the notice immediately and we also urge the state government to respect & protect the rights of the civilians, since we are living in the top democratic country.
