Restrictions imposed on Vehicles plying along NH-37

Chief Secretary Shri Oinam Nabakishor Singh today held a press conference at Conference Hall, Old Secretariat (South Block), Imphal. He said the state government has imposed total restrictions on goods/passengers vehciles/tractors with or without trailer with laden weight or gross registered vehcile weight exceeding 24 Metric Tons along National Highway-37( Imphal-Jiribam).
The restriction has been imposed under Section 115 of the Motor Vehciles Act, 1988, to prevent frequent breakdown of bailey suspension bridges over Makru and Barak along NH-37.
From today onwards truck drivers will be required to weigh their trucks/carriages at the FCI weight bridge at Jiribam on payment of fees of Rs 60 (Sixty) for upto 10 MT and Rs 120 (One Hundred and Twenty) for above 10 MT of loaded/unloaded trucks, he added.
Informing media persons that the repairment work of the Barak Bridge will be completed today by BRTF (Border Road Task Force), Chief Secretary said only trucks with weight certificate shall be allowed to join the convoy/move from Jiribam to Imphal. He assured that the restriction will not effect the Railway projects which will remain in force untill further order.
Speaking over the ensuing 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, 2017, Chief Secretary said the state is ready for the election. He said the Centre has decided to give additional 30 Companies of Central Para-military Forces for smooth conduct of election process, 6 (six) Companies from Lucknow will be airlifted soon.
All together 280 Companies will be pressed on duty to ensure that the election is conducted in a peaceful manner. Further the Chief Secretary mentioned that he has written a letter today to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to ensure availability of essential commodities specially Petroleum Products for smooth conduct of elections.
