Registration Open for 'South Asia Social Media Summit on Social Media for Digital Empowerment'
20 August
Social media is becoming a driving tool for ordinary people to get connected and create a whole new world of global netizens. In South Asia, the prolific penetration of mobile technology has fueled the adoption of social media, so much so that India has the world's third largest number of Facebook users. The trend of adoption in social media is similar in other South Asian countries as well. Also, cross-country and international networks can be explored very easily on social media irrespective of political and geographical boundaries.
In an effort to bring social media experts across South Asian countries, Digital Empowerment Foundation (DEF), Delhi based NGO, will be organizing two-day Summit on ‘South Asia Summit on Social Media for Digital Empowerment’ at the American Centre, New Delhi on 19-20 September 2013. The objective of the Summit is to examine and debate not only the use of various social media tools in different contexts, but how they change the manner in which individuals, academics, business owners and the government make use of this medium. The Summit aims to lay foundation for a regional network of Social Media experts by giving alumni an opportunity to work together and explore social media and its digital power to empower larger masses for social good. This is the first time a regional summit is being organized on social media and how social media could be seen and used for empowerment.
In the Summit, 16 Social Media Experts from seven South Asian countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Maldives and Sri Lanka) have come together to join forces, energize and inspire each other and develop exciting sessions on how social media has become a tool for empowerment in their countries and generate workshops for empowering audiences to leverage social media more effectively. Industry experts along with social media stakeholders will also contribute in sessions to explore and demystify the changing landscape of social media in the region.
The summit will cover topics like Social Media and Changing Landscape of Journalism, Mobilizing Youth Using Technology, Tech Solutions for Growing Businesses, ICT for Public Health, Developing Effective Messaging for Social Media, Industry Outlook for South Asia, Hayaku.
