SHRI RAJKUMAR JHALAJIT SINGH : Akademi Fellow
Born in 1924 at Yaiskul Chingakham Leirak, Imphal, Shri Rajkumar Jhalajit Singh is one of the most revered scholars and historians of Manipur.
A culturally renowned personality who has honoured with Padmashree by Government of India, he is one of those tall figures who has been in forefront of the cultural and literary movement of the State for decades.
A well-cultured person with strong academic inclination, Shri Jhalajit completed post-graduation in Arts and LLB and subsequently served in the Gauhati University as a member of the Court Academic Council and the Faculty of Law and later, as Principal of LMS Law College, Imphal.
He also held the position of Controller of Examination at Manipur University, Canchipur. After retirement, he served as President of Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal where he played a key role in the inclusion of Manipuri language in the 8th Schedule.
Shri Jhalajit has participated in a number of seminars, conferences and workshops sharing his vast repertoire of knowledge on culture and literature.
He has also written several articles and a few books which include A Short History of Manipur, A History of Manipuri Literature, and Manipur, a book on the history of Manipur.
He has been conferred with several honours and recognitions.
A committed advocate of Sanskrit, Shri Jhalajit is presently serving as President of Manipuri Sanskrit Parishad.
For his eminence and invaluable contributions to Manipuri art and culture Shri Rajkumar Jhalajit Singh is elected Fellow of Manipur State Kala Akademi.
