Racial abuse: NE students seek legal safeguard
Seven Sisters Post | Reigning Lyngdoh | Shillong (May 13):
Continuing their protest against discrimination being faced by the people from the Northeast in metros, students from the region on Sunday demanded a legislation to safeguard the region’s students from racial discrimination.
“We demand that there should be a legislation to stop racial profiling and discrimination of the Northeast students and mechanism for safety and security of the region’s students in other cities,” Robert Thokchom, president of Shillong Manipuri Student Union said.
Supporting the demand of Meghalaya chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma for a CBI probe into the incidents, the students’ body also urged upon the chief ministers of all Northeastern states to join hands in support of Dr Sangma’s demand.
