The Nagaland Medicos' Union, RIMS, Imphal, has taken a strong exception over the manner in which the recent Post Graduate Entrance Examination, RIMS, Imphal held.
In a release, the Union alleged that the exam was held without following the usual parameters like prior declaration of pass mark in the prospectus and declaring the result without detailed merit list.
It said only 10 out of 234 candidates (4.2%) were declared successful for the 56 seats, reflecting the stiff criteria of PG entrance vis-à-vis the present academic standard of the Northeastern region.
The Union disclosed that the authority of the Institute has indicated that seats allocated to each
beneficiary State, if not filled through the said exam would be given to open candidates, implying that beneficiary States would be automatically forfeited of their allotted seats.
If such a situation arises, the Union pointed out, then the RIMS authority has the autonomy to offer the seats to any candidate at its discretion as practiced earlier without any transparency. It further stated if this detrimental trend is allowed to continue, it will affect the interest of aspiring students resulting to compromising the interest of the beneficiary States and erode the every concept of foundation of RIMS.
In this context, the students' community of RIMS has appealed to the concerned authority, senior
professionals and the public in general to come forward and set an acceptable modality for PG studies at RIMS, Imphal, which, it said, would be beneficial to the aspiring students' community as well as safeguard the interest of the beneficiary States.
Meanwhile, in connection with the recent PG Entrance Examination held on May 19 last, the students' community representing Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura has resolved that there should be no re-examination of the said exam, the merit list of all the candidates should be declared as practiced everywhere and 50% cut-off mark should be
abolished.
It also resolved that seats allotted to the beneficiary States should not be re-allocated to any
other States unless officially surrendered by the concerned Government and further urged the concerned authority to amend the said regulation at an early date, incorporating the above points.
The NMU, RIMS Imphal also appealed to the Nagaland Government that if any reserved seat was lying vacant due to lack of interest amongst the in-service candidates, it should, instead of surrendering it, made them available as open seat(s) to the aspiring fresh candidate(s) from Nagaland.
It also said if there might be instances where senior in-service candidates were not interested in certain reserved seat(s), the seat should be offered to those interested junior in-service candidate(s) so that the seat would not be wasted.
