Protest over poor soccer results
The Telegraph | Robert Sapam | Imphal, Mar 29
A group of football fans on Thursday gathered at the All Manipur Football Association (AMFA) office at Mapal Kangjeibung here holding placards and demanding an inquiry into the string of poor performances by the men's football team, especially in Santosh Trophy.
S. Suraj Singh, one of the protesters, said: "We have witnessed a series of setbacks by the men's team in big tournaments like the T. Ao football tournament and Santosh Trophy, where it crashed out with huge defeats. We want to know if the defeats have anything to do with the selection process. The AMFA needs to come out with a white paper on the dismal performances. We are very sad and disturbed with fielding of teams just to make up the numbers. We feel ashamed as the whole country looks at us as a football hub. Something needs to be done to bring about change."
