Peace Talk Should Usher In Peace In NE Region |

Having seen enthusiasm among the Nagas when they came out to receive the two NSCN leaders returning to India after three decades to hold talk with the Govt of India, one can assume that many Nagas are holding the duo as their true leaders. The absence of Khaplang group in this peace talk has become a non-issue now. During the Congress regime when Late Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister of India, Mizoram accord, Assam accord and Sri Lanka accord were signed within five years. BJP led Govt at centre is four years complete. It took nearly four years to come to the final conclusion of the peace talk with NSCN. There is a reason tor delaying the finding of solution to the Naga problem. It relied heavily on a retired bureaucrat. A sensible Govt should not have left a matter as important as this one holding of dialogue with UG elements in the hands of bureaucrat. The matter was taken up by the Prime Minister himself after it became clear that the talk, was going to create more trouble than good in the entire NE region. Nagaland must return to peace that is our desire. If normalcy returns in that state, all these highway looting and arsons will be checked and controlled. The day all these NSCN cadres lay down arms as a fall out of the peace talk the entire NE region will rejoice for it will herald the on set of peace in the region. It is also our desire that the state too returns to normalcy. But it seems Naga problems keep cropping up. Earlier Shillong accord had been signed between Union Govt and the Naga leaders. Perhaps that accord could not meet the expectations of the entire Nagas. Will this peace talk fulfill the expectations of all the Nagas, which remains to be seen? But everything is now tin the dark. Will the BJP led Govt keep the matter in th.e dark as Padmanabhaih did it in the past. Transparency is really important. Such talk cannot be held secretly. The Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee having met the leaders from the NE states in the past had known how the people in these states look to the territorial integrity issue. We believe the top executive of the country, who had said in the past that the territorial integrity of the states in the NE region would not be affected by such peace talk. Let us see how the peace talk progress. The outcome of the peace talk should go a long way in bringing peace to the entire NE region. That is the expectation of the people in the NE region.
