Ode to Missed Hope
Sri Jagadish Brajabaacy *
How delicious and nutritious
Like a bunch of grapes and mangoes
On the tree of my existence
O hope, thou art on earth!
What a warm source of inspiration
For achievers and failures alike
As if by magic before science
You work miracles for the world!
In the wake of the inspiration
That we draw from you by sheer luck
The poetry of life blooms well then
Like the red rose blooming in spring.
Like an actress-turned diplomat
You wipe tears from a failure's face
That radiates then and there
Optimism and self-confidence.
Again like eyes of the hungry
That dance at the confectioner's inn
A sudden smile animates then
The failure's face at the sight of hope.
What on earth a phenomenon
As if made by a magician
Working his magic on the audience
Charmed by his magical powers!
For one of the laborious
You're a fruit nutritious
And for the one suffering
You're food nourishing.
Life is a well-oiled machine
If one draws up hopeful plans
That are likened to a ladder
That moves the plan-maker up.
What an unseen but potent force
Thou art on earth O, hope divine
Guiding us through difficulties
Like a mother fond of her sons!
