Noting approach of Dr Lorho : Refreshing change
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: March 29 2019 -
A refreshing change this is.
In inviting the Meiteis, Meitei Pangals and the Kukis to come and talk things over for a better Manipur, Dr Lorho Pfoze, NPF candidate in Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, has drilled home the message that his battle ground is Manipur, in Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
At least this is what The Sangai Express sees in his address at his flag hoisting ceremony at Senapati district headquarters on March 27.
This is a good gesture from a candidate of the NPF and this is something which should not be lost on anyone.
Here is a man who appeared to speak for a better Manipur and in doing that he not only addressed the Naga people but also the other communities and this is extremely significant.
A gesture that the NPF cannot continue to be seen as a political party which speaks only for the Nagas but for all communities and this is ideally what political leaders and political parties should be.
On the other hand one saw former Chief Minister O Ibobi going on the offensive against the BJP while speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of the Congress candidate in the Outer Parliamentary
Constituency, James Kashung.
Given the position of the Congress, the tirade against the BJP is understandable and will fall into the broad understanding of campaigning.
That the former Chief Minister did not address his lecture against the NPF is understandable, but it is more than obvious that in the Outer Constituency the fight may well boil down between the Congress,
BJP and the NPF.
Lest one forgets, there is also Thangminlen Kipgen of the NPP and it is heartening to see that there are other political parties ready to give a good fight to the Big Two.
In the Inner Parliamentary Constituency too, everything suggest that the fight will be close with the Big Two having decided to field RK Ranjan (BJP) and Oinam Nabakishore (Congress).
In Dr M Nara, the CPI has fielded a candidate who has managed to earn the respect of the people down the years.
Not something which every politicians can lay claim to.
Other than the three candidates mentioned here, there are other candidates too who must be fancying their chances at the hustings and as mentioned here numerous times earlier, the final take may come from the choice of candidate the political parties have made.
To be sure the antecedents and the prospects of all the candidates must have been thoroughly studied and minutely dissected before coming to the final decision, before the choice was made and now it is up to
the voters who to give the stamp of approval.
This is where the responsibility of the voters cannot be over emphasised.
The political parties have done what they had to do and now it is up to the voters to decide who they back or support when voting day comes.
The ball is now in the court of the voters and let everyone be reminded that the choice they make on voting day will decide to a large extent on what their lives could be in the next five years .
