Nagaland Governor Shamal Datta said the interest of the office should be dictated by the interest of the people and that as a Government servant one had to fulfill the aspiration of the people in whatever way or manner one was operating. According to DIPR News, the Governor while addressing participants of the "Good Governance" seminar here at ATI wanted each of them to be "Whistle Blowers" and further asked why they should lose the missionary zeal to do good to the people.
Referring to the advantages of the wide usage of English language in Nagaland, Datta said, "I refuse to believe that Nagaland will lag behind" and further added that physically, culturally and emotionally Nagas were second to none. The Governor however regretted that the State had not prospered as it should in the last 50 years despite that fact that it had so much potential and the society was suffering even though it was so open and magnanimous.
"The society has developed a sense of resignation and this has to be countered by a sense of revival", he said alluding to the past when Nagaland had been in the grip of a mighty revival. He also said peace and security were important for the society and attempts to undermine peace could be neutralized through good Governance. Stating that it was "a good chance to be talking about good governance", the Governor stressed that "people's power has to grow". Today's development was for building of the society, not the individual, family or clan and must aim at common well being, he added. Datta also lauded the recourse persons and expressed the hope that "the wind of change which had started will one day become a typhoon that will flood this land of abundance.
