Not a road at all : Genuine grievance : December 15 deadline
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: December 06, 2014 -
The deadline is December 15. The grievance is genuine.
Not a road at all and worse than a dirt track.
This is the condition of Lamphel Sanakeithel road or the road that runs just opposite to Shankar Talkies at Lamphel and it has been lying in this state for years.
The water pipes and other obstacles that have been piled up by the sides of the road are loud with the silent protest of the people.
Political stability and Manipur has seen this with the Congress and Chief Minister O Ibobi well into the third term in office but obviously this has not had any bearing on this stretch of road.
Not just a road connecting two points or locations, but an important stretch connecting some of the most important institutions in the land.
To numerous people this road is the stretch that takes one to RIMS and Shija Hospital. It also connects Langol Housing Complex with the rest of the State or Imphal.
Other than these two medical centres, Lamphel area is home to a number of important Government offices.
It defies logic that the importance of this road has not sunk into the consciousness of the powers that be and perhaps herein lies one of the biggest tragedies that have been scripted by the State Government.
It is something much more than a local issue concerning one Assembly Constituency and this point should register in the minds of those people sitting in the corridors of power.
Why has this road been left in such an abject situation all these years ? A question which only the Congress Government and the babudom can answer.
The Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO) has every reason to feel peeved. If the Government has any sense it should wake up to the December 15 time frame given to repair the said stretch of road.
A bumpy ride it is for the motorists and others on this stretch of the road, but this is not all.
Each vehicle, particularly heavy vehicle, that passes through inevitably kicks up clouds of dust and the conditions of the people living on either side of the road can only be imagined.
Wonder how the State Government would react if one of the Ministers were made to travel on this stretch of road daily sans their security escorts and wailing sirens.
If this is the state of affairs in one of the Assembly segments in Imphal Municipal area then the situation in the far flung areas can only be imagined.
Hard to believe that the Congress Government, in office for the third time in a row, has not yet woken up to the point that roadways are fundamental to development.
The abominable state of this stretch of road should more than make it clear that the Government has got all its priorities warped.
