Natyabhusan (Shumang Leela)
Shri Ngangom Chaoba was born in 1944 at Awang Potshangbam Market.
He was born to Ngangom Tomba and Ngangom ongbi Madhumati Devi.
Chaoba has a comic personality in him since childhood.
He started learning drama under the guidance of Mangsidam Binos who is popularly known as Jahat Singh Daku saba in 1964.
In his later years, Ngangom Chaoba also learned the art of drama from Maibam Ramcharan and Thangjam Birchand.
He then started to act in courtyard plays performed by team of Mangsidam Binod known as the North Imphal Jatra Association. Later, he joined Manipur Co-Artists Association.
In the drama 'Ipa gi Ibungo' (Jagat Singh Daku) performed by team of Mangsidam Binod, he performed the character of Chaoba with such poise that in his later years, he was popularly called 'Chaoba Saba'.
Later in the shumang leela (courtyard play) "Houseful" by Manipur Co-artists Association, Ngangom Chaoba perfectly acted the character of Mahadev that he came to be known as 'Mahadev Saba'.

The eminent artist who has contributed all of his life to the art had to leave the field due to an unfortunate accident.
But this does not prevent him from pursuing his love of the art.
In his later life, Ngangom Chaoba acted in a exclusive show called 'Leikai Ani Khatnaba' organized by Shumang Leela Council for documentation of old courtyard plays.
He succeeded in wooing the audience by his performance by playing the role of local elder.
He has been accorded with various awards of Best Comedian in his lifetime.
In recognition of his contribution in the field of shumang leela (courtyard plays), Manipuri Sahitya Parishad has awarded him with the Natyabhusan (Shumang Leela) title in its 83rd Annual Conference.
