Nambol welcomes Development Photos with enthusiasm

Taking forward the campaign for mass awareness about centrally-sponsored schemes in Manipur, a five-day Photo Exhibition on the theme ‘Bharat Nirman’ was set rolling Tuesday at Public Theatre Hall, Nambol in Bishnupur District. The opening ceremony which was attended by large number of students, social leaders, elders and public of the area was organized by the Field Exhibnition Office, Directorate of Advertising & Visual Publicity (DAVP), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Imphal in collaboration with Public Theatre Artistes’ Association, Nambol.
Setting the five-day campaign into motion, Heisnam Somorendro Singh, Chairperson, Nambol Municipal Council, who graced the occasion as Chief Guest said that photo exhibition is a good medium to understand about the various development projects undertaken by the Government of India. The Chairperson also explained various gamut of centrally-sponsored schemes such as IAY, Urban Housing Scheme, Old Age Pension, NREGS, etc and exhorted the public to invoke Right to Information Act to get information from the concerned higher authorities. Observing that Manipur seems to be lacking behind in developmental front when compared to other North Eastern states, the Chief Guest made a clarion call for sincere and honest implementation of centrally-sponsored schemes in Manipur. ‘The photos displayed reflects where we are’ said the Chairperson.
‘These photos teaches us new things which we have not known before’, said Angom Bimola Devi, Councillor, Ward No 3, Nambol Municipal Council, who attended as Guest of Honour. Deeply moved by the huge collection of photos from the region, the lady Councillor termed ‘Bharat Nirman’ as a wholesome development package for the development and welfare of the common people. Lets work together for achieving the goal of Bharat Nirman, she appealed.
Presiding the impressive inauguration ceremony, which he himself termed it as ‘very successful’, T Ibochou Singh, Ex-Chairman, NMC and Secretary, Public Theatre Artistes’ Association enlightened the gathering with the concept of L3 – Look, Listen & Learn. Coming up with innovative thoughts and idea, Ibochou suggested for emulating Sikkim in initiating Rope Ways in order to solve traffic congestion of Imphal City. Noting that many new things could be learnt from the photo exhibition, Ibochou made fervent appealed to the public to take opportunity of visiting the exhibition to learn and understand the programs and policies of the Government.
Overwhelmed by the huge response shown by the public, Dr Gin Gangte, IIS, Field Exhibition Officer, DAVP, Imphal presented details account of the purpose of the exhibition. ‘Development projects are not meant for a single person, it’s for the public’ said Dr Gin Gangte while exhorting the gathering to be vigilance in the implementation of various development schemes by the Government. The IIS officer calls for sincerity and honesty in implementation so that the fruits of development could reach the targeted beneficiaries. Dr Gin Gangte also said that DAVP, Imphal is organizing mass awareness campaign extensively in the past 2/3 months through the medium of photo exhibition at Mayang Imphal, Wangoi, Lilong, Lamsang, and Bishnupur. The next campaign will be held at Mini Secretariat, Ukhrul from November 1 – 3, informed the Field Exhibition Officer.
The exhibition which would continue till October 27 has a collection of 242 photos - 132 government photos showcasing the development of the North East while 110 local photos enriched the exhibition. ‘This exhibition will give understanding of each other thereby giving much value to our national integration’ observed M Ibohal Singh, Retired Principal, L Sanoi College. It was a source of knowledge for Dolly Guru Aribam, a tenth grader of Brighter English Academy, Nambol while her peer, Sanjita Konsam, also a tenth grader wind up the day’s itinerary thus ‘It makes us to understand more about India’.
