The Government of Nagaland has urged competent authorities in the Government of India to look into the agitation over the appointment of Prof GD Sharma as Vice Chancellor of the Nagaland University at the earliest so that an early solution could be found to resolve the matter.
“In order to facilitate this process, the State Government will take the initiative to request the competent authorities in the Government of India to meet the Nagaland University Teachers Association (NUTA) representatives,” said a Government release here on Friday. “While this agitation has not cause any law and order problem in the State, the State Government appeals to NUTA to immediately suspend the ongoing agitation against Prof Sharma, VC, NU so that a final solution to the problem could be reached in an atmosphere of mutual harmony and goodwill in the larger interest of the student community of the Nagaland University.”
Meanwhile, responding to the appeal of the State Government, NUTA has decided to suspend its agitation against Prof Sharma’s appointment as the VC, NU.
“In pursuance of a solution to the Nagaland University Vice Chancellor crisis and in response to the appeal made by the State Government, and following the clarification given by the State Government that there is no law and order problem in Nagaland University and the request made by them to the competent authority to look into the issue at the earliest for a solution, NUTA has decided to suspend its agitation to facilitate a delegation to meet the competent authority at New Delhi,” said a press statement issued by NUTA Chairman Dr N. Nuh and the Secretary General Dr B Liegise Sources also disclosed that a NUTA delegation would be departing for Delhi in the next few days to meet HRD officials.
