Kohima June 13: Nagaland Home Minister Neiphiu Rio has said Naga political scenario has entered into a very crucial phase in the past five years and further added that Naga people needed everyone's help in finding a lasting and permanent settlement to the protracted
problem.
Inaugurating the newly constructed building of the North Police Station here on Wednesday, the Minister cautioned that if the Naga people continued with this unsolved political situation, "there will be chaos and progress will be hampered".
Reiterating that Naga problem as political, Rio said the Government of India with successive Prime Ministers had announced that the Naga problem as "political" and also endorsed on the ongoing political dialogue.
"I think everybody should come forward for solution", stated the Minister. "We should not only depend on undergrounds for the solution but all-be it public or NGOs or church or overground-for finding an honorable settlement with the Government of India".
Stating that the State Government would not stand on the way to solution, Rio said Nagaland Assembly had on three occasions adopted resolutions in respect of bringing all Naga contiguous areas under a single administrative unit. "This is historical document not my opinion". He added.
Elaborating further, the Minister said the door for coming all Naga contiguous areas under a single administrative roof had always remained open since the signing of the infamous "16-Point Agreement" of 1960 through which the present State of Nagaland was created.
He further asserted that "will and force are not the basis of the State". "It is the people who should
decide and nobody can force anybody. We are not forcing anybody either," said Rio. "The will of the people should prevail".
The Minister also made his point clear that if the Nagas of other States desired to live there
peacefully, it is welcomed. Otherwise they should be given their choice. "This is democracy", the Minister pointed out.
Nagaland DGP, Hesso Mao also spoke on the occasion. He said with the cooperation of the public, police in the State could discharge their bounden duties more effectively.
Assuring best service from the police to the people, the Police Chief requested the Home Minister to initiate more construction of such buildings for other Police Stations in the other parts of the State. K Keditsu, Additional Chief Engineer, Police Project, Norman Putsure, DC Kohima were among others who spoke on the occasion while SP Kohima I Toshitsungba Aier was the Chairman. Several high ranking State Police officials, civil officials, Lt General (Retd)
Kulkarni, Chairman of the Cease Fire Monitoring group, Kohima Village Gaun Buras, Kohima Town Committee Members were also present on the occasion.
