Naga Students' Federation (NSF) to stage NE-wide protest
Date : 29th June 2012
The Naga Students' Federation(NSF) while upholding the Resolutions adopted in the North East Students' Organisation (NESO) General Council meeting held at Guwahati on 29th May 2012, the NSF will stage protest demonstration at Raj Bhavan on the 29th of June 2012 along with the rest of the Students' Organisations in the respective State Head Quarters across the seven North Eastern States as part of its second phase agitation.
The NESO with its Member Organisations staged its first phase protest demonstration on the 7th June 2012 at Guwahati, the gate way of North East, where NSF Official Representatives with hundreds of volunteers participated with the rest of the thousand students from the North Eastern states.
The second phase agitation under the banner of NESO is to show our resentment against the frequent unwanted incidents of atrocities, molestation, assault, harassment and discrimination meted out to the students and youths of North East Region in different parts of mainland India. Although such incidents have been vehemently denounced by various Organisations and Governments at different levels, North East communities continue to suffer shock and panic as unabated attack and assault has been intensely continuing which has become a matter of serious concern.
Therefore, the NSF in line with the NESO and its member Organisation demands "a strong and well defined Central Act to Protect the Students Community of North East India studying in different parts of the country".
The proposed Protest on 29th June 2012 at Raj Bhawan is to also express solidarity and unflinching support on the seven points charter of Demand submitted to the Government of India by the NESO in October 2011. The Memorandum containing Seven Points demands the following;
1. Education Policy and Human Resources Development for the North East Region by setting up a "Special Education Commission" and to establish Advanced Research Centres, Technical and Medical colleges, Vocational Institutes and Coaching Centres for Civil Services.
2. Repeal of impunitive Legislations such as Arm Forces Special Powers Act 1958 and to expedite the ongoing Peace Process for an early negotiated settlement in all parts of NE Region.
3. A comprehensive and proactive Policy on the Infiltration of Illegal Immigrants, Refugees in the NE region.
4. To institute a Special Commission for framing a sustainable Eco-system and Action plan on Economic and Infrastructural Development and Environmental concern.
5. Employment Policy for North East by instituting "National Commission" for North east to study the nature, causes and consequences of unemployment problems of youths and to make North East a special employment zone.
6. To set up a"Common Boundary Commission" for early amicable settlement on the Inter-State Boundary Issue in the NE Region.
