Today, as the world celebrates Mothers' Day jubilantly, we also join in celebrating our beloved Mothers. They are worth celebrating because they are the embodiment of love, compassion, sacrifice and forgiveness. When we start reminiscing the rare and godly qualities of a Mother, we cannot help, but feel immensely nostalgic of the bygone days, starting from the Day One we were brought into this world and thus far.
Let's conjure the godly and the most beautiful image of a MOTHER with all her worth and values. The reason is, we all tend to neglect and overlook the priceless, exuberant qualities of our own dear mothers' who toiled so hard to give us the very best … she may be poor yet so rich in love for her dear children.
Can you remember how many countless/sleepless nights she spent? Although tired and worn out, she showed immense joy and not complain. At times, one may wonder who is this special person, made so beautifully by God? Every human being as the Bible says was made after His own image but this creature is so uniquely close to her creator, in her capacity to love and sacrifice. The loftiest model God's love is graphically reflected through the love of a mother.
On this mother's breast, the child grows. In the loving embrace of the mother, the child dreams sweet days. From the mother's lips the child hears the sweet words of love. The cradle still remains a great enigma at the dawn of life- of the mysterious opening bud of life. Mothers' Day is the day of remembering and honoring mothers.
Let's take a close look at some of the mothers in the Holy Bible. Turning over to a godly character in I Samuel 1… a woman who understood the joys of motherhood. In fact … she is going to remind us of the old adage that "the hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world". Her name is Hannah as found in I Samuel 1.
There is a saying among the world that says, "For every great man, there is a great woman behind him. How true! It is because there stands behind him a great mother who raised him up to be what he becomes.
And the Bible and History is full of these unsung heroes who took their role as mothers to be a very important accomplishment. Today, the world standard tries to dictate to us the concept of what is considered accomplished person and what is not. But there are some women in the history that by today's standard would not be considered accomplished and much more likely would be considered nobody. It would be wise to understand this, the Bible and history is replete with stories of great women behind great men and those great women have been their mothers.
Look at Moses, and how his mother raised him up and taught him that he had been chosen by God to deliver God's people, "Faith comes from hearing". How Moses … How could he, after indoctrinated and having got the complete royal training and education in the palace got out, all of that out of him? You know why? Because he had the godly influence of his Hebrew mother, who taught him the fear and reverence of the true and living God.
And what about John Wesley? He was born on 17th June, 1703 in Epworth rectory, England. He was the fifteenth child of nineteen, John and Susanna Wesley, father and mother … Father, a preacher, mother, a consecrated saint, although with nineteenth children to take care of, she found much time through her busy day to teach her children, Bible lessons, and Bible stories and pray for them. That made the boys what they were.
And Abraham Lincoln, after his own mother died when he was young, was brought up by his stepmother Sarah Bush Johnson who taught him to read and guided his early life through home schooling him and seeing to it he had the right kinds of books to influence his life. What a great impact it had on the life of Abraham Lincoln which helped him as a stepping stone of the proverbial "from a log hut to the White House!"
Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it".
Here, we can see the importance of the role mothers have in fashioning the minds, intellect and condition of their children's hearts. A mother can nurture up a child to become a great man who lives a godly life, or she can create a monster that affects society in a devastating way.
Every mother is an awesome gift to each one of us, endowed with indescribable/amazing capacity to love and to sacrifice. Who can surpass Mothers' Love???
May Mercy, Peace and Love be for all the mothers in abundance as we celebrate Mothers' Day today.
No man is poor who has a virtuous Mother!
