We live in a grief full society where we don’t seem to have or see the legitimate outlets for expressing our grievances.

As a matter of fact the belief of peaceful expression of grievances seems to have drifted away from us possibly due to the belief that it doesn’t yield.

It seems that we already have an institution, school of thoughts developed unknowingly at the grass root level that seems to have formed a societal belief that Bandhs, Mob, Economic blockade are the only means for expression of grievances. Though this are the prevalent expressions used but this form of expression lacks the power and the strength to pursue genuine reforms.

In most of the public grievance expression carried out, we have seen more of anger and emotions directing towards uncontrolled behaviors affecting people who has not taken any role in the cause.

It is apparently known to everyone that the state has failed in providing outlets for peaceful expression of grievances for whatsoever reason and it has neither been able to provide protection to the people from getting affected.

Negotiations are done only when certain amounts of aggressive mode of expression are used, hence it also gives a perverse learning to the mass.

The Government inability to solve the problems and the importance it has claimed to have has legitimizes violence as the ultimate expression of grievances.

The authorities’ actions represent a continuing crackdown on the freedom of assembly and freedom of expression though the intent cited is public security. It may be assumed as evident that the Government is intent on limiting the public expression of Grievances or concerns.

Violence runs through as undercurrent in Manipur society. Our tortured day today living, fear of death, insecurity, suppression by the law and order situations holds some of the reasons. This is possibly a link to what we see as the nature of expressing our grievances.

Though there are always reasons for an action, it is in the interest of the society and our future descendant that we transform the reasons into learning for us to act on it. We seem to find ourselves in a pool of confusion due to our continuous exposure in a society characterized by conflicts and violence.

For whatsoever complex reason we have been subjected to an experience that defunct our brain from thinking rationally and acts more on influences.

Channels to accept the expression of grievances must be open and receptive in order to bring changes. To date, these channels have been compromised by violence at best difficult to access, for reasons of Government arrogance, formal institutional weakness, due to vested interest.

Those with grievances need to learn that such grievances must be legitimate and must be expressed through legitimate channels. Similarly, those channels have to be open to accept communication of such grievances, in terms of capacity, language and willingness.
