The 3rd Phase of Smile Train Shija Cleft Project- Mission Nagaland was held at Oking Hospital and Research Centre, Kohima on 15th and 16th January 2012. During the 2 days camp, 17 patients with cleft were rendered new smiles. Dr. Kh Palin, Partnered Surgeon of Smile Train and also Consultant Plastic Surgeon of Shija Hospitals along with his team operated on the patients. The patients were from different districts of Nagaland.
Smile Train Shija Cleft Project- Mission Nagaland is a triangular effort of Smile Train Shija Cleft Project, Manipur, Oking Hospitals and Research Centre, Kohima and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Kohima to eradicate the problem of Cleft Lip and Palate from Nagaland.

Cleft lip and palate are birth defects on the lip and palate. Patients suffering from Cleft related problem lives in shame, isolation and heartache. They usually don’t go to school because of the defect. They can lead a normal life provided the timely surgical intervention. Many individuals who had cleft earlier and after treatment have gone ahead to become doctors, engineer, scientist, artists etc. It is estimated that more than 2500 patients are living with Cleft in the state of Nagaland without any means to get it repaired. The social workers, church leaders, teachers and politicians are requested to spread the message into the interior of the state of Nagaland that the defect can be repaired free of cost at Oking hospital, Kohima and lead a second normal life.
The 4th Phase of Mission Nagaland is scheduled for 11th and 12th February 2012 at Oking Hospitals and Research Centre, Kohima. Patients with Cleft related problem can get themselves registered/ report to the hospital on 10th February 2012. For details please contact- Oking Hospitals, Kohima, Ph.
