Meitei Goddess Ngaleima :: An Artwork by O. Ponting
About the Artwork:
Lemlei Nga Leima was an ancient Meitei goddess of fish. She was sent on earth by her Father, the King of Heaven, to prosper the population of fish in the earthly water bodies.
Meitei fishermen & fisherwomen used to worship her to bless them with enough fish to support their livelihoods.
Catching large number of fish was believed to be the blessings from the goddess. Scanty amount of fish was considered as a sign of her displeasure.
This image is released in the public domain, allowing everyone to use it freely.
May all the fishing people as well as all the pisciculturists (fish farmers) of Kangleipak & the world be blessed by Mother Goddess Ngaleima.
