Manipur seeks 20 crores aid to deal with quake

Manipur Government has sought Central assistance of Rs 20 crore for relief operations in the quake-devastated State. Manipur Chief Secretary O Nabakishore disclosed this while speaking to media persons during the Manipur Press Club Foundation Day at the Club premises here on Wednesday.
A powerful 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck Manipur and its neighbouring region on Monday morning which claimed eight lives and left 96 injured besides damaging 371 buildings and structures in the State, according to preliminary reports of State Relief and Disaster Management department today. Nabakishore also informed that the State Government is planning to provide Rs 1 lakh as compensation for each household in hills and Rs 95,000 in valley areas.
