As part of the Special Seminar Series by MRFD, we have a talk by Saratchand Thiyam (Sahitya Academy Awardee 2006-07) and Bimabati Thiyam Ongbi on Sunday 18th February 2007. Saratchand Thiyam (Sahitya Academy Awardee 2006-07) will speak on `Houjikki Manipurgi Seirenggi Khongchat` (Contemporary Manipuri Poetry) and Bimabati Thiyam Ongbi will Speak on `Manipuri Sahityada Nupi Ayeebisinggi Khongchat' (Trends of Manipuri Women Writers).

Sharatchand is an eminent literary activist, poet and litterateur. He was chosen for the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2006-07 for his travelogue `Nungshibi Greece` in Manipuri published in the year 2002. He will be the first recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award in the field of travelogue in Manipuri category. He had published eight literary works- six poetry in Manipuri namely `Tengali Karba Podon` (1980), `Chho Chabun` (1989), `Africa` (1993), `Yumlingdabashinggee Yum` (2001) and `Tsunami` (2006); a poetry in English `The Waves` (1995) translated by BS Rajkumar and a travelogue in Manipuri `Nungshibi Greece` (2002).
`Nungshibi Greece` was among the largest selling literary books in Manipur. The travelogue got the Best Book Award in Manipur State Book Fair organized by the Government of Manipur in the year 2002. Again, its English translation was published in the year 2005 under the title `O Lovely Greece` translated by Chingkheinganba Thangjam.
One of his poem `Iche`, that has been translated in English by Robin S Ngangom as `Sister` is being taught in the Master Degree course in English of the Nagaland University.
Bimabati Thiyam Ongbi wife of Saratchand Thiyam is a short story
writer. Among them, "He's Still Alive" ( from 'The Heart of the
Matter' edited by Geeta Dharmarajan. New Delhi, Katha, 2004, 296 p.,
