Manipur Film Development Corporation, Imphal Wednesday 10th October 2007 5.00 p.m. Film: The Seventh Seal Director: Bergman Antonius Block, a knight, returns with his squire Jöns from the Crusades and finds that his home country is ravaged by the plague. To his dismay, he discovers that Death has come for him too. In order to buy time he challenges Death to a chess match, which allows him to reach his home and be reunited with his wife after ten years away. Thursday 11th October 2007 5.00 p.m. Film: L'Avventura Director: Antonioni L'avventura has an unusual narrative structure in which the apparently important central mystery is gradually forgotten and left unsolved. The story begins with a group of rich couples from Rome who take a boat trip and visit a virtually unpopulated volcanic island off the coast of Sicily. One of them, a young woman named Anna, wanders off and vanishes without a trace. The others search for her, but then give up, gradually adjust to her disappearance and drift back into their own lives. The rest of the story is somewhat centered on the relationship that develops between Anna's lover and her best friend. Friday 12th October 2007 5.00 p.m. Film: Wild Strawberries Director: Bergman Isak Borg is a medical doctor and professor who drives with his daughter-in-law Marianne from Stockholm to Lund to receive an honorary degree from Lund University. During this trip, he is forced by nightmares, daydreams, his old age, and his impending death to re-evaluate his life. He meets a variety of people on the road, from Sara, a female hitcher traveling with her fiance and escort, to a quarrelling married couple who remind Isak of his own life and marriage. Saturday 13th October 2007 5.00 p.m. Film: L’EcIisse Director: Antonioni The film tells the story of a young woman, Vittoria (Monica Vitti) who meets an energetic young stockbroker, Piero (Alain Delon), but who is unable to form a solid relationship with him because of the man's materialistic nature. The story is told in a slow paced style and often focuses attention on the bland, modern housing estate on which Vittoria lives. Sunday 14th October 2007 5.00 p.m. Film: Silence Director: Bergman Two sisters stop at a hotel in an unidentified European country on the brink of war or insurrection. The older, more cultured sister, Ester (Ingrid Thulin), who translates literature, is terminally ill, and her fear of death clouds her relationship with her younger, beautiful sister Anna (Gunnel Lindblom), who's depicted as the fleshly side of the spirit/flesh dichotomy. The younger sister neglects her son Johan (Jörgen Lindström) (a boy of 12 or so), who wanders the seemingly half-empty hotel. Monday 15th October 2007 5.00 p.m. Film: IL Grido Director: Antonioni The film tells the story of Aldo, a worker of an Italian sugar refinery. His long-time lover Irma suddenly learns that her husband, left to Australia in search of a job, died there. Aldo suggests that this may be a chance for them to marry, but Irma claims that she loves another man. After the quarrel Aldo leaves his town with their daughter and they start desperately wandering all over the Po valley. However, he turns but unable to forget Irma and returns to his town, where a demonstration protests the building of a U.S. military airfield instead of the refinery. There he finds that Irma lives in a new home and through a window watches her with a baby. Deeply depressed, he mounts the refinery's high tower, and, as Irma approaches, leaps. Tuesday 15th October 2007 5.00 p.m. Film: Scenes from a marriage Director: Bergman Scenes from a Marriage follows Marianne and Johan (played by Liv Ullmann and Erland Josephson), a married couple whose relationship eventually reaches divorce after several fluctuations. Their relationship continues after their divorce and they cannot keep apart. The above information is provided by Mayum Network Foundation . This announcement was webcasted on October 08th , 2007 |
