An open letter to the Chief Minister of Manipur regarding the pathetic BSNL broadband condition in Tamenglong
Jimmy Pamei *
Sir,
We, the Broadband Users Group (BUG) of Tamenglong would like to put up to you our grievances for your kind intervention. That, when the world is demanding internet as a part of human right, and when other communities are using 3G and 4G internet, Tamenglong is not able to have a decent internet facility, not even a 2G regular network.
The BSNL have supplied to customers Landline connection with a promise to supply 24 hours non-stop supply of Broadband Internet facility.
However, several times they have supplied that for about half the duration of the day. For many days and months, BSNL will switch off internet at 12 midnight.
If it was a genuine technical snag it could be forgiven, but we find the network back in the morning.
This means the line has not snapped or broken last night! This suggests that someone is willfully switching off the internet line, either from Tamenglong or at Khongsang Cell. This further suggests a contempt and disrespect for the people of Tamenglong.
Whenever we put up complaints the BSNL office will give a reply ‘Khongsang dagi mut that pa’. The action of these staff towards marginalizing the people of Tamenglong with ‘Tamenglong gi mee sing di karisu khang puan te da’ attitude, added with frequent snapping of OFC line during rain, thunderstorm and damage done at road repair mean that this citizen of Tamenglong have to stay hungry for internet line for many days.
These irregularities and also the poor network strength even when supplied have hampered students and offices while sending their forms and documents abroad.
Many students and job seekers have to wait for another year when they could not upload their document online.
And those who are engaged in the local dailies have no chance of getting the fresh news and articles in time.
Therefore, since it seems our complaints have fallen on the deaf ears of the BSNL staff, we would like our honorable CM to look into this matter and give necessary rectification at the earliest for the welfare of the people of Tamenglong.
Yours faithfully
Jimmy Pamei
