KSDC to launch 'Quit Kuki Land' movement
Imphal, January 21, 2013
The KSDC, seeking a political dialogue for recognition of Kuki territories as a state under the Indian Union had amicably written to the Government of India several times. On the eve of the INDO-ASEAN Car Rally entering Moreh, Kuki territory, the KSDC chose to repose faith in the Government of India and withdrew the public blockade in Kuki areas after the government had promised immediate initiation of talks on the proposed Kuki state after the conclusion of the winter session of Parliament.
However, the Government of India had yet again failed on its promise and had failed to initiate political dialogue till this day. On the contrary, the government chose to circulate the possibility of granting a Pan-Naga Council to NSCN (IM) prior to Assembly elections in Nagaland.
The Kuki State Demand Committee representatives went to Delhi on the 14th January and sought to apprise the Home Minister of India on the need to settle Kuki political issue before any solution with the NSCN (IM) as the NSCN (IM) continued to claim large parts of Kuki territory as Naga traditional land. They waited till 19th January 2013.
The Home Minister was too 'busy' meeting the all party delegation from Manipur, a front that is orchestrated by the dominant Meitei community to fend for the atrocious and oppressive rule of the majority community. It is appropriate to recall here that the all political parties of Manipur was instrumental in over-ruling the Supreme Court's verdict on delimitation of Assembly constituencies in the state through a presidential ordinance because the implementation of the court's verdict stood to give adequate representation of tribals in the state Assembly.
Given the neglect shown to the Kuki political demand for their rights to be respected and their territories to be constituted as a separate state of the Indian Union, the KSDC has decided to launch 'QUIT KUKI LAND' movement from the 24th of January 2013 at 5.00pm.
i). There will be no celebration and official program to mark the Republic Day of India, or any subsequent celebrations connected with the Indian state in Kuki areas.
ii). The local Indian authorities are advised to withdraw from Kuki territory and they will be held responsible for any untoward incident arising out of their failure to comply with this resolution of the Kuki people.
iii). The Kuki militants supporting Kuki statehood are also hereby urged to stand behind the KSDC and act in concert with'the KSDC and in tandem with the Kuki people's ultimate political goal of governing ourselves over our land. The Kuki rights are not necessarily subject to recognition by the government of India.
iv). The KSDC will burn the Indian Flag on 26th January 2013 as a mark of severance of ties between Kuki Nation and the Indian state which had failed to recognize Kuki political rights even after 65 years of Indian Independence and 65 years of Kuki tolerance. Hence, no Indian law will operate on Kukis living in Kuki territories.
On this august day, the 21st of January 2013, the collective of the Kuki Chiefs' and Kuki leaders unanimously resolved to adhere, pursue and uphold the resolution of the KSDC in the interests of realizing the Kukis State. The leadership of the KSDC has been ordained to immediately initiate a plebiscite of the Kuki people to garner Kuki people's resolution for Kukis State.
