The Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) has expressed serious concern over the fast emerging scenario between India and Pakistan and further urged upon both countries to refrain from the path of armed conflicts.
The Secretary General of CBCI, Bishop Percival Fernandez stated the escalating tension between the two countries has made the people of the country as well as international worries, adding due to terrorism acts, hundreds of innocent civilians lost their precious lives recently particularly in Jammu and Kashmir sector.
He has further made a fervent call to the Government to work towards a solution for peace and dialogue to fight the menace and also appealed to both the countries to avoid any confrontation between them, which are the two nuclear power countries of the sub-continent.
The Bishop said the two nuclear countries in the sub-continent should work diplomatically and initiate dialogue to avoid the prevailing situation at the borders, adding war destroyed only humanity. Therefore the two neighboring countries should understand that they could not afford a war at time when millions of their people were living in poverty, social injustice, illiteracy and painful economic conditions.
Stating that war was never the solution to remove terrorism from India and Pakistan, Archbishop Vincent of Delhi appealed to both the Governments to give up the idea of war and initiate the path of dialogue and international solidarity against terrorism.
The CBCI also condemned the terrorist acts on India and especially appealed to Pakistan to curb the infiltration of terrorists into the regions of Jammu and Kashmir.
