A brief statement is furnished below to show how the tribal languages are promoted in the neighbouring States of the North-east.

Assam

The Assam State Government is implementing the Article 350-A fairly well in Assam.

1. Printing of school textbooks of tribal languages:

The Assam State Government has its own policy of tribal languages. The State Government printed the school textbooks of tribal languages and provided them to the students free of cost.

2. Annual Financial Grant to the Literature Societies of tribal languages:

Financial assistances are given every year to the Literature Societies of Tribal language groups in the State to meet the costs of office maintenance (Literature Society's office) and conducting workshops, trainings, awareness campaigns, etc.

3. Teacher appointment for tribal languages:

Teachers for tribal languages are appointed by the State Government and they are done through Teacher Eligibilty Test (STET/CTET).

Nagaland

Among the north-eastern States, the Nagaland State Government tops in the implementation of the Article 350-A of the Constitution of India and the Sikkim State Government in the second.

1. Printing of school textbooks of tribal languages:

School textbooks of tribal languages are printed by the State Government and provided them to the students free of cost.

2. Staff appointment exclusively for tribal languages -

Nagaland State Government appoints staff for tribal languages in Nagaland. The State Government appoints the following staff for each and every language group.

Language Officer -1 for each language group

Asst. Lang. Officer -1 for each language

Language Assitant -1 for each language

Computer typist -1 for each language

2. Annual Financial Grant to the Literature Societies of tribal languages:

The State Government regular grant Rs. 50,000/- p.a. and, if need be, more financial grant is given to each tribal language groups/linguistic minority groups in the State.

Financial assistnces are given to the Literature Societies of Tribal language groups in the State to meet the costs of office maintenances and conducting workshops, trainings, awareness campaigns, etc.

4. Teacher appointment

Language teachers are appointed for every tribal language group in the States. Appointment of teachgers of tribal language groups are done through Teacher Eligibility Test (STET/CTET) conducted by the State Government.

Sikkim

The SIKKIM State Government is the second top among the States of the north-east the implementation of the Article 350-A.

1. Printing of school textbooks of tribal languages:

School textbooks of tribal languages are printed by the State Government and provided them to the students free of cost.

2. Staff appointment exclusively for tribal languages:

The State Government appoints staff for tribal languages in Sikkim. The State Government appoints the following staff for each and every language group.

Textbook Writer -1 for each language

Asst. Textbook Writer -1 for each language

Some of them are on deputation from among the government teachers.

3. Annual Financial Grant to the Literature Societies of tribal languages:

Financial assistnces are given every year to the Literature Societies of Tribal language groups in the State to meet the costs of maintenances and conducting workshops, trainings, awareness campaigns, etc.

4. Teacher appointment for tribal languages:

Appointment of teachgers of tribal language groups are done through Teacher Eligibility Test (STET/CTET) conducted by the State Government.
