Hijam Nirmala : Gold for Manipur in 17th Asian Masters Championship 2012, Taipei
03rd November 2012 , Taipei
Good news for Manipur and India!!!
On the first day of the ongoing 17th Asia Masters Athletics Championships, held from 2nd to 7th November , 2012 at Taipei, Taiwan, Hijam Nirmala has garnered a gold medal for India in the 800 meters in the 80 to 85 years group which was held yesterday (Nov 3rd).
Hijam Nirmala had also competed in Singapore and Malaysia in the same Asia Masters Championships earlier. Total seven women and three men athletes come from Manipur to compete for the medals.
Some more medals are expected for the ten men team from Manipur.
A total of 80 participants of different ages from India come to participate in this championship. More than 1500 competitors from all over Asia came to participate in this 17th Masters Asian Championship.
It is very encouraging, inspiring and touchy to see all these enthusiastic and brave old sports personals in the field. Some 90 plus years old sportsmen never give up running even they have to walk to finish their runs. It is amazing to see these old and brave athletes' sports spirits.
