Hazardous fishing method using Hildan insecticide in Loktak Lake
It has been found that certain fishers have been indulging in a very detrimental and hazardous fishing method in Loktak Lake, particularly in Maibam Phumlak area near Phoubakchao, using Hildan insecticide.
A team of LDA have verified high level of water quality contamination and large scale fish death as a result of such fishing practice. It has also been reported that such fish caught after poisoning with the said insecticide have been smoked and sold in the markets, far and near.
An appeal is hereby made in the interest of the general public that due care may be taken in purchasing smoked fish from the local markets specially in areas close to Phoubakchao and the eastern side of the lake.

It is further appealed to the fishers not to use such techniques which would damage the ecosystem and cause serious health hazard in the interest of one and all.
