Fr. V.M. Thomas to head Don Bosco Society
Fr. V.M. Thomas, a Harvard-graduate in Educational Administration, Planning and Social Policy, will take charge as the Provincial of the Salesian Province of Guwahati on May 20, 2012 at Don Bosco Panbazar, one of the regional headquarters of the Salesian society in Northeast. His predecessor, Fr. Joe Almeida will relinquish office the same day.
Fr. V.M. Thomas, presently Executive Director, Don Bosco Institute, Guwahati assumes office with a brilliant track record of successful leadership. Thousands in the region have experienced the multifaceted personality of Fr. Thomas during the 10 years of his service as teacher, Principal and Rector of Don Bosco School, Panbazar, and the 20 years of visionary leadership as Director of DBYES and Founder Director of DBI.
A person of vision, dynamism, optimism, and rare acumen, Fr. Thomas is known for his leadership and managerial skills, his capacity to network and build up relationships, his taste for building and architecture, his motivational talents, his love for the young, and above all his compassion for the poor and marginalized.
A person of exceptional caliber and extra ordinary qualities of mind and heart, Fr. Thomas is one of the most consulted persons in the region in matters pertaining to Church and society. His contributions in the field of training of trainers, education, youth development, management and social advocacy are remarkable and praiseworthy.
The new office widens his arena of service and offers him greater possibilities of serving the people of the region. Fr. Thomas has the overall responsibility of all the Don Bosco Institutions and works of the Province. He is also the ex-officio Chancellor of Assam Don Bosco University.
