Global warming has its impact on Manipur
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra | Imphal (June 5):
Brochures on tourism in Manipur define its climate as salubrious and pleasant round the year. However, in reality this statement is slowly becoming a misstatement as people are beginning to feel the impact of the global warming.
Now air conditioning is no longer a luxury in Manipur, but slowly becoming a necessity even as residents of hill districts like Ukhrul need fans to keep cool.
Photographs – 136 of them from different parts of the state taken by 24 photographers of the Manipur Amateur Photo Club told a sorry tale of gross negligence and lack of a proper policy by the government. The pictures spoke thousand words as flames scorched the hillside and greed took toll on the years old trees.
