Synopsis
A film shoot serves as the narrative structure for this experiential and unconventional documentary, which journeys across a century of Manipur history while rooted in the context of its cinema. Key political and cinematic moments dovetail-the first magic lantern screening was Manipur's last free night as an independent kingdom; a century later, when Manipuri films went completely digital, the people rose in mass protests against the Indian army's excesses. Re-enactments, staged sequences and archival footage all contribute to this striking film that explores a region on the remote India-Burma border where picturesque scenery and military conflict coexist.
It was awarded the International Jury Award(shared) at the Mumbai International Film Festival 2012 and the John Abraham National Award for Best Documentary at FFSI, Keralam's Signs festival 2012.
