Forty Winks
Ruby Tongbram *
Forty winks, the land I dreamed
Trodding upon the path of gold
Reached that castle upon the sea
Maidens, servants on service rolled
The golden gate that open wide
Told thine eyes,'Feast upon this mine!'
Beauty lay on what eyes beheld
Pretty princess tore, had their beauty sold.
Kindly meal at the table served
Wine the finest, aged to old
Drink your fill, eat contend
Merry, merry, sing over again!
The after meal atmospheric air
Filled the air to breath
Dancing girls or angels they are?
Thy heart they moved by their
Graceful steps
Fell the shower of sleep again
Fell the truth of sleep's gentle hand
Eyelids too heavy, body frail
The citadel too weakened.
Shot that flag white, up high
The victor rose, raised in the sky
Surrendered to sleep's mighty hand
Fell at his feet yet again!
The wake to reality; A rude awakening
A bursting bubble had been my dream
By a wish upon the shooting star
Project my dream in life so real
But it's impossible as elephants do fly
Could only wish again for the forty winks
Forty winks, the land I dream
Ricochet again to me!
